Washington, DC—“We are encouraged that the Trump administration continues to pursue the president’s stated goal of making in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments available without cost for all Americans who need them, either through mandatory insurance coverage or a governmental program. The latest proposed step, allowing employers to voluntarily provide coverage as an ‘excepted benefit,’ may indeed increase access, but will not yet fulfill that promise.
The proposal released yesterday is just that—a draft for public comment. We encourage all concerned citizens to review it and make their voices heard. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine and its members will do the same, as we continue working to ensure that every patient who needs medical assistance to build a family—and fully celebrate Mother’s Day—has access to that care.”
