Congratulations to the 2025 Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award Recipient

Alan DeCherney, MD
Alan Hersh DeCherney received his Medical Degree from Temple University School of Medicine, where he was Alpha Omega Alpha. He was a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Yale, Dr. DeCherney was a pioneer when IVF was first performed successfully in the United States.
He was the John Slate Ely Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University and the Division Director of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Women’s Health Services; he was also the Phaneuf Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts University School of Medicine, the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. DeCherney is Past President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), the Society of Reproductive Surgeons (SRS), the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (SGI).
Dr. DeCherney served as Editor-in-Chief of Fertility and Sterility from 1996 to 2011, as an Associate Editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, and on the editorial board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. DeCherney served as a Member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a Fellow Ad Eundem of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has been a member of the National Academies of Medicine since 2004.
He was Branch Chief and Senior Investigator, Reproductive Biology and Medicine Branch, Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Gynecology Branch, and Deputy Clinical Director for Academic Affairs, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health.
Dr. DeCherney is now Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.

The Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award honors an ASRM member who is recognized as an outstanding educator in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional or patient education in the area of basic and/or clinical reproductive biology and medicine.
Each nomination must include:
- A letter of nomination
- The nominee’s curriculum vitae
- Summary of educational accomplishments and awards in the field of reproductive medicine and biology
- Letters of support from at least two (2) additional members of the Society
The recipient will be recognized as the recipient of the Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award by presentation of a plaque at the ASRM Scientific Congress & Expo. In addition, the recipient will be provided with free registration for the Scientific Congress, roundtrip economy airfare, and up to $800 for two days accommodations in the ASRM hotel room block, meals and ground transportation.

ASRM Lifetime Achievement Award
This award honors a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine who has made exemplary contributions to the field of reproduction during their career. The recipient will have demonstrated innovation, leadership, and other scholarly accomplishments that have a lasting impact on advancing clinical care, the frontiers of research in reproductive sciences, and the education of the scientific community.
Carlos Simón Excellence in Translational Research Award
The Carlos Simón Excellence in Translational Research Award honors an ASRM Member who has demonstrated originality and creativity through discovery and made a substantial contribution to the field of Reproductive Medicine resulting in changes or improved clinical practice.
Ira And Ester Rosenwaks New Investigator Award
This award recognizes exceptional clinical/basic research contributions in reproductive sciences published within 10 years post residency/postdoc/fellowship. It requires original, independent and impactful research contributions, considering conceptual breakthroughs, impact on allied fields, and development of new methodologies.
