Welcome to ASRM’s Advocacy in Action, where we give an overview of what our Government Affairs team has been working on, summarize relevant federal and state legislation, and highlight the advocacy and outreach efforts of our members. • Congress will vote on proposed NIH cuts when they return from August recess that would slash research funding by 40 percent. Urge your representatives to protect NIH funding and use their oversight authority to ensure any reorganization protects the full spectrum of medical research using our Action Alert system.

We encourage you to watch for town halls or events hosted by your representatives where you can raise the issue with them directly. Find your representatives here.

• ASRM has released a fact sheet addressing misleading terminology and outlining evidence-based best practices for evaluating and treating infertility amidst growing discussion around restorative reproductive medicine (RRM). Find it here.

• ASRM launched the “Fighting for Our Future” campaign to provide much-needed funding to reproductive scientists, researchers, and labs in the wake of recent federal funding cuts. Learn more and donate here.

• ASRM thanks Sens. Booker, Duckworth, Schumer, Murray, and Rep. DeLauro for their leadership in reintroducing the Access to Fertility Treatment and Care Act. Learn about the bicameral bill's potential impact.

• July 25 was World IVF Day! We thank our incredible members and the wider infertility community for all you do to help patients build the families of their dreams. We're proud to support you by pushing for expanded access and providing opportunities for education and connection.

• ASRM is deeply disappointed by the passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” The cuts to Medicaid this megabill proposes will jeopardize health insurance for 12 million Americans. We will continue to fight for expanded coverage for essential care, including reproductive medicine. The American people have a right to comprehensive health care and to grow their families as they see fit.

• ASRM Chief Advocacy & Policy Officer Sean Tipton spoke with the Washington Post about the states pushing to pass IVF protection bills a year after the Alabama Supreme Court’s LePage v. Alabama decision jumbled the fertility procedure’s legality. Read the Washington Post article here.
