National Infertility Awareness Week

April 19-25, 2026

Share Your Story and Become An Advocate
The World Health Organization estimates that roughly 1 in 6 people worldwide are affected by infertility. This does not include LGBTQ+ couples and individuals choosing to parent without a partner who may need assisted reproductive medical treatments to start and grow their families. Founded in 1989, National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) is observed every April to show legislators and the public that infertility is an issue that affects many and deserves comprehensive health care coverage.

Following the Trump Administration’s executive order on IVF in February, more eyes are on the practice of reproductive medicine than ever. It’s important that we advocate year-round for a patient’s right to infertility care and a provider’s right to practice, but your voice and expertise are especially important right now, and we all need to be a part of the conversation.

So, what can our members do?

Take Action With ASRM

✍️ Write to your reps.

The quickest way to get your legislator’s ear is to form a relationship with them, and the easiest way to do this is by writing, calling, and tagging them on social media. Keep your eyes peeled for ASRM Action Alerts in your inbox. Click the hyperlink at the bottom of each alert to reroute to Quorum, where you can easily access and send pre-written messages about infertility bills to your reps. We do the work, your voice is heard. Feel free to add your own flair to the messaging.

As a bonus, the Office of Public Affairs is currently holding its second Action Alert Challenge! Entering is easy—respond to all the Action Alerts you receive from us via email or see on our socials for the chance to win the prize of your choice from the ASRM shop and an optional shoutout online.

🏛️ Attend Virtual Federal Advocacy Day.

Despite its wide usage and broad support, the practice of reproductive medicine is often misunderstood by politicians and the public. You can help change that by registering to attend RESOLVE’s Federal Advocacy Day in partnership with ASRM. Join us for an all-day interactive event designed to help you connect with your legislators and advocate for your interests across the fertility field.

💻 Post to socials.

Posting online and tagging your reps goes a long way. Post your thoughts on or experience with infertility using the hashtags #NIAW and #NationalInfertilityAwarenessWeek. Find your reps’ pages and follow and tag them whenever you post about infertility awareness.

📖 Share your story.

Do you or a patient of yours have an experience with infertility you’d like to share? ASRM wants to hear it, feature it, and share it with legislators, with your consent. Tell us about your experience:

ASRM Invites You to Share Your Story and Become an Advocate

We also welcome your video testimony on the care you provide to your patients. Has the recent passage of a state coverage mandate allowed you to treat new patients? Have rollbacks in your state made it more difficult to provide patients with top-notch fertility care? We want to hear about it. You can post it on socials and tag us @asrm_org, email it to us at publicaffairs@asrm.org, or both.

🧡 Wear orange!

Don your favorite orange outfit for infertility awareness. Share photos to socials, tag us @ASRM_org, and be sure to tell your friends, families, and neighbors to join the fun!

🧑‍⚖️ Participate in the Proclamation Project.

Submit a request to your state legislators that NIAW be recognized as an official awareness week to increase public awareness of infertility across the country. Learn how here:
