Message from the Chair

With other meetings that focus exclusively on contraception, and so little time on our busy calendars, is ASRM relevant? As Chair of the Contraception SIG, I would like to discuss why clinicians interested in contraception should attend the ASRM annual meeting.

No other meeting in our specialty attracts such large numbers of both clinicians and scientists in reproductive biology. The well organized and attended scientific sessions at ASRM provide an opportunity for oral presentation and discussion of original research papers in diverse interest areas. Every year, I am impressed by the quality and significance of the oral presentations and posters at our own Contraception scientific session. There is no other meeting that combines basic, translational, and clinical research in contraception. ASRM is the place to present cutting edge research on an international stage.

ASRM offers clinicians up-to-date training opportunities in the latest technology and innovations through postgraduate courses, such as the highly successful "hands-on training course in office-based family planning procedures" offered this past fall.

Contraception Day at the ASRM annual meeting provides a full day of family planning educational activities in a variety of entertaining formats. Commercially-sponsored symposia provide additional learning opportunities each year.

New collaborative efforts between the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals and ASRM demonstrate a long-term commitment to improve the quality and visibility of family planning programs within ASRM.

I welcome your ideas and involvement.

Jeffrey T. Jensen, M.D., M.P.H., CSIG Chair
