Grant Partner Highlight: Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Association

We are excited to introduce our partner for the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Association (RPLA) Research Award: the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Association. In 2019, in the wake of their sixth miscarriage, Megan Hanson and Ben Burnham founded RPLA to help prevent other couples from enduring the heartache they experienced on their fertility journey. Hoping to transform their frustration and pain into something positive, they have dedicated RPLA to eliminating recurrent pregnancy loss through the advancement of research into causes and treatments, by providing support and resources to those affected, and by increasing awareness of the impact of miscarriage and fertility challenges on individuals and families.

In 2020, RPLA approached ASRM to establish and help fund a research grant focused specifically on recurrent pregnancy loss. RPLA believes that by working together as both a patient and scientific community, we can increase the focus and speed of meaningful research into recurrent miscarriage and work towards a future where unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is eliminated and individuals are empowered to make informed healthcare and family building decisions.

Tsegaselassie Workalemahu PhD, MSc (University of Utah) was the first researcher to receive this grant funding for their research program, "Inherited Genetic Variants and Unexplained Recurrent Pregnancy Loss." Together, the ASRM Research Institute and RPLA are proud to promote and facilitate this research by providing financial support through this partnership.
