ASRM Center for Policy & Leadership Releases White Paper Detailing Oversight of IVF in the U.S. and Abroad
March 13, 2025
For immediate release
“IVF has gained increasing significance and use worldwide,” said Rebecca O’Connor, director of the CPL. “For many, IVF signifies the only opportunity to have a biological child. Reproductive medicine is already one of the most highly regulated forms of healthcare. With heightened scrutiny facing the field, it is imperative to be aware of the current regulatory landscape, maintain the ability to innovate, and ensure the IVF process guarantees the optimal outcome and experience for each person. We hope that this report will inform related discussions."
The paper delves into the comprehensive regulatory framework governing ART practices, addressing the roles of key governmental bodies such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and professional organizations like ASRM and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) in establishing quality standards and guidelines.
