This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Office of Women's Health (ORWH). The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is to solicit applications to continue to support a national program of mentored institutional career development programs for junior faculty who have recently completed postgraduate clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology, and are committed to an independent research career in women's reproductive health. The supervised research training will assist junior faculty in their transition into productive, physician scientists in areas related to obstetrics and gynecology and its subspecialties.
The due date is July 28, 2009.

Program Announcement (PA) Title:
PA-08-103 (P01) ; PA-08-104 (R01) Adverse Outcomes of Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Receipt Date: Standard
Sponsor/Co-Sponsor(s): The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
Purpose: This NICHD-wide Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages investigator-initiated applications designed to study the ways in which assisted reproductive technologies (ART) may directly affect eggs, sperm or preimplantation embryos that could, in turn, lead to adverse outcomes during fetal development, the perinatal period, childhood, adulthood or even subsequent generations. While most ART offspring appear to be healthy, there are reports of adverse outcomes. This FOA encourages research on human subjects and animal models that can include a wide variety of basic, clinical, behavioral and epidemiological approaches that link reproductive health to overall health and quality of life.

Program Announcement:
PA-08-059 (R01); PA-08-060 (R21) Role of Adipose Tissue as an Endocrine Organ in Reproduction and
Infertility– standard receipt dates
The National Institute on Child Health and Human Development is interested in stimulating research to better understand the role of adipose tissue in the normal physiological regulation of reproduction, to discern its possible role in the etiology of diseases and disorders that impact fertility, and to probe its potential importance in different racial/ethnic prevalence rates of certain reproductive disorders. Examples of possible projects in response to the initiative:
How sex steroids modulate adipose tissue biology with a focus on sex and gender-based differences in the synthesis and secretion of adipokines that could impact fertility status
The role of adipose tissue in mediating the effects of changed energy status (i.e., over/under nutrition, exercise, etc.) on reproduction;
The role of adipose tissue dysfunction in the genesis of human reproductive diseases and disorders;
An examination of possible racial/ethnic differences in adipocyte biology and pathobiology that could account for an increased incidence of fertility problems in some minority populations
