ASRM Announces Establishment Of Joseph Sanfilippo, MD, MBA In Training-Surgical Research Fund

For Immediate Release:
July 10, 2023

Washington, DC – ASRM announces the establishment of a new endowment in honor of Dr. Joseph Sanfilippo. This endowment will provide funding for grants dedicated to pilot research conducted by students, residents, and fellows in reproductive surgery. Dr. Sanfilippo has had an illustrious career in the field of reproductive medicine, serving as a faculty member, researcher, practitioner, and as President of ASRM.

Dr. Sanfilippo's contributions to the field of reproductive medicine are immeasurable. He has written or edited over 23 books and published groundbreaking articles, cementing his place as a leading authority on reproductive medicine. Additionally, he was a founding member of NASPAG (North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology) and Editor in Chief of the society's journal. He also is a site examiner for the Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgical fellowship programs of the AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists). Over the course of his career, Dr. Sanfilippo has earned numerous accolades, including being named Distinguished Alumnus, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Chicago Medical School, and being voted Top Doctor in Pittsburgh for over 20 consecutive years (Castle Connolly Top Doctors). He has also mentored over 50 fellows throughout his career. The establishment of this endowment is a fitting tribute to Dr. Sanfilippo's outstanding career and contributions to the field of reproductive medicine. ASRM is proud to honor Dr. Sanfilippo in this way and looks forward to seeing the continued impact of his work through this endowment.

Beginning with Dr. Sanfilippo’s leadership gift, he and ASRM are kicking off a fundraising campaign to raise $250,000 to fully endow the fund. Dividends from the endowment will be used to make annual grants through the ASRM Research Institute beginning in 2025. This will ensure that the legacy of Dr. Sanfilippo's work in the field of reproductive medicine continues to support and advance the field for years to come.
