Continuing Medical Education
Mission Statement
The educational mission of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) consists of a comprehensive educational program comprised of educational activities that serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide reproductive medicine services for patients, the public and the profession.
Purpose: The overall goal of the ASRM CME program is to provide CME activities that will address the professional practice gaps of our physician learners in reproductive medicine by facilitating change in participants’ competence and performance and, where possible, improve patient outcomes, if assessed.
Target Audience: Continuing medical education activities are designed in the public interest for physicians who practice the full spectrum of reproductive medicine, mainly reproductive endocrinologists, gynecologists, urologists, internists, and family practice physicians throughout the US and the world. Selected activities also are made available to physicians in related specialties as well as allied health care professionals who may benefit from team learning activities, including nurses, basic scientists, mental health professionals and social workers who are engaged in the practice of and research in reproductive medicine.
Types of Activities Provided: In order to accomplish the goals of the CME program, ASRM will offer a range of activity types based on adult learning principles to allow for different learning styles and take into consideration the expected outcomes of each activity. Current offerings include live courses and meetings and enduring materials, in the form of printed and internet-based activities. Content: The content of the ASRM CME program centers around clinical issues related to reproductive medicine and biology. The Society assesses members and learners in its educational activities to ensure that learners find that the activities result in improvement in their practice of medicine. The Society also uses assessment tools to assure that activities are effective in providing information of educational value. The Society strives to provide activities that are evidence-based, balanced, free from bias and independent of commercial influence.
Expected Results: We expect that physicians will report greater confidence in their approach to clinical problems or express their intent to change their behavior and apply newly acquired strategies in their practice of reproductive medicine. We expect that when observed our learners will demonstrate competence and the ability to utilize targeted skills. Finally, if assessed within the setting of clinical practice, we expect performance parameters to show improvement or a favorable impact on targeted patient outcomes to be demonstrated.
