Congratulations to Paul G. McDonough, M.D., the winner of the 2014 Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award 

Nominations are being sought for the 2015 Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award.

The Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award honors an ASRM member who is recognized as an outstanding educator in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional or patient education in the area of basic and/or clinical reproductive biology and medicine. The Award is made possible through an educational endowment from K.M. Kavoussi, M.D., Shahryar Kavoussi, M.D., Parviz Kavoussi, M.D., Mahryar Kavoussi, J.D., and Austin Fertility & Reproductive Medicine/Westlake IVF.

Nominations may be submitted to Andrew R. La Barbera, Ph.D., ASRM Chief Scientific Officer, at asrm@asrm.org by members of the Society before June 1, 2015. Each nomination must include a letter of nomination and the nominee’s curriculum vitae, bibliography and summary of educational accomplishments and awards in the field of reproductive medicine and biology. Each nomination must be accompanied by letters of support from at least two additional members of the Society. ASRM members may nominate themselves. Candidates must have been a member of ASRM for at least one year prior to nomination for the Award. Selection of the Award recipient is made by the Executive Committee of the ASRM and is based primarily on the candidate’s record of achievement and recognition as an outstanding teacher and mentor at the institutional, local, regional, national or international level. Sustained achievement in the fields of professional, scientific and/or patient education is an important consideration in selection for the award. The recipient will be notified by August 1, 2015. 
 

The recipient will be recognized as the recipient of the Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award by presentation of a plaque at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Society in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, the recipient will be provided with free registration for the Annual Meeting Scientific Program, roundtrip economy coach airfare, and up to $800 for two days accommodations in the ASRM hotel room block, meals and ground transportation.

This new award honors an ASRM member who is recognized as an outstanding educator in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional or patient education in the area of basic and/or clinical reproductive biology and medicine. Paul G. McDonough, M.D., Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Physiology and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia, is the inaugural recipient of the Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award. Selection of the Award recipient is based primarily on the candidate’s record of achievement and recognition as an outstanding teacher and mentor at the institutional, local, regional, national or international level. Professor McDonough is one of the leading pioneers in introducing molecular genetics into the subspecialty of reproductive endocrinology and infertility.    McDonough-img 
He mentored 34 REI fellows as well as a host of medical students, residents and graduate students. Professor McDonough’s contributions to reproductive medicine and genetics will live on through his students.
