ASRM Launches Ad Campaign in Kansas Special Election

Voters urged to Vote NO on measure to remove reproductive rights from state constitution.

The American Society Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) today announced the launch of a Kansas ad campaign as voters go to the polls to fend off an effort to strike a standing right to abortion services from the state constitution.

On Tuesday August 2, voters in Kansas will be asked to amend the state constitution to make it clear there is no right to abortion in the constitution. In a 2019 decision, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that the state constitution protects a woman’s right to obtain an abortion.

ASRM is urging Kansas voters to vote NO on the constitutional amendment and to preserve the right of patients to obtain the health care procedures they need. The campaign will consist of radio and internet advertising beginning Friday and running through election day.

“We will fight to protect the rights of our members to provide the treatments their patients need, be that a need for contraception, fertility care, management of high-risk pregnancies, or abortion. Patients need access to reproductive medical services, and we will work to ensure they have it. We will take the fight to state capitols, to the halls of Congress, to the courts and to the ballot box.”  Said Marcelle Cedars MD President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
