Report focuses on current legal landscape in several states
ASRM released the following press release yesterday.Today, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s (ASRM) Center for Policy and Leadership (CPL), released its second report in its series on states’ abortion laws and their potential impact on access to reproductive healthcare. The report, developed in partnership with the law firm of Hogan Lovells, LLP, provides background and limited analysis of several states’ current laws with a focus on the potential impact on reproductive medicine and assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures, including in vitro fertilization (IVF).
What’s in the report:
- The legal landscape in several states, including: AZ, IN, KS, LA, MO, NC, NE, OH, PA, TX, SC, and VA, as of October 1, 2022;
- What current state laws say, if anything, about reproductive medicine;
- Key definitions (e.g., “embryo”, “unborn child”, and “fertilization”); and
- Where you can find the provisions of law in state code.
“As we have seen over the past several months, states’ abortion laws are rapidly evolving. As decisions are made, we continue to strive to ensure our members and their patients, the media, and policymakers have available up-to-date information. This report reflects the law as of October 1, 2022. The CPL continues to monitor and provide updates as it relates to abortion restriction bills across the nation and encourages readers to keep apprised of ongoing state-level activities,” says Becca O’Connor, ASRM, Director of the Center for Policy and Leadership.
