ASRM Supports AB 2029

ASRM is proud to announce that our President, Dr. Marcelle Cedars, spoke in front of the Assembly House Committee in California Tuesday morning and later at a press conference in support of AB 2029. This bill would expand access, improve care, and remove economic barriers to fertility treatment by requiring individual and group health benefit plans to cover diagnosis of infertility and treatment for infertility, including in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

AB 2029 protects against exclusionary and discriminatory insurance coverage for infertility, providing equitable access to the LGBTQ+ community and unpartnered individuals. It also helps cancer patients and others with medically-induced infertility complete their family building after preserving their eggs and sperm, which was made possible by SB 600 in 2019.

Reproduction is a basic human need and access to care should be a basic human right.

AB 2029 was introduced by Assembly Member Wicks and has broad support and sponsors from the California Department of Insurance Commissioner’s Office, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, Alliance for Fertility Preservation, Equality California, and American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
