J. Michael Putman, MD
Dr. J. Michael Putman, Founder and Medical Director of the Fertility Center of Dallas, passed away on October 28, 2023. Born on December 21, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Frederick Reuben Putman and Hazel Leveille Putman, Dr. Putman, alongside his brother Frederick Reuben Putman Jr., shared a birthday near Christmas. Their camaraderie was marked by brilliant comedic timing and esoteric parodies that brought joy to those around them.
Dr. Putman, a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, held medical appointments at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, Baylor Surgicare, and Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.
Specializing in infertility disorders, Dr. Putman's expertise included in vitro fertilization, fertility preservation, artificial insemination, third-party reproduction, genetic screening, recurrent pregnancy loss, and minimally invasive surgery. He was a respected figure in the Dallas community, frequently providing expert insights to television and radio news and lecturing on reproductive medicine therapies to both medical and patient groups. He was also a long-time member of ASRM.
Throughout his career, Dr. Putman received recognition for his contributions, being named one of the Top Doctors in America and a Super Doctor in Texas Monthly. He was selected as one of D Magazine's Best Doctors: Infertility from 1999 to 2021 and received the magazine’s Patient's Choice Award. He was also recognized by Living Magazine as the best Fertility & Reproductive Doctor for Rockwall and Rowlett.
Dr. Putman will be remembered for treasured amounts of kindness, tenderness, dignity, astute professionalism, and his love for his children and grandchildren. In honoring his memory, we acknowledge his impact on the field of reproductive medicine and extend our condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends.
