As a follow-up to the Visioning Process, NICHD staff recently identified three initial areas for focus (others will be identified in the future). These areas were selected from a larger group of over 100 topics identified by staff from the Vision White Papers and Vision Statement. The areas were then presented to and discussed with the NICHD Advisory Council.
The three areas are
- intrauterine assessment of placental and fetal function,
- contraception, and
- long-term implication(s) of assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
One means to increase funding in these areas will be the establishment of a select pay process to support applications which address any of the three areas, but fall below the institute payline. Unfortunately, the current budgetary constraints will limit the number of applications supported through this approach.
