ASRM is pleased to report that lawmakers in Kansas will not be voting on a bill to ban surrogacy contracts. Due to the overwhelmingly negative attention the bill drew at a hearing earlier this week, the bill’s sponsor, Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook, was pressured to pull the bill from consideration for this year.
Voices of reason, including that of ASRM member Dr. David Grainger, prevailed at the hearing and the Senator found that in addition to not having the support of the public on this issue, she also did not have the support of the majority of her colleagues, nor of the Senate leadership.
