ASRM Statement on Palm Springs Bombing
May 18, 2025
For immediate release
We are appalled and deeply disturbed by the news of the bombing at the American Reproductive Centers in Palm Springs. Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones. We wish those injured a full and swift recovery and mourn the loss of life. ASRM and its members stand ready to support the team there and their patients in any way we can.
Although law enforcement has indicated that this incident does not appear to be part of a broader coordinated movement, it is nevertheless the latest in a horrific series of attacks against health care providers and facilities. Sadly, those of us working in reproductive medicine are no strangers to these threats. We have seen physicians murdered, facilities attacked, and patients being harassed, threatened, and harmed. We must not allow such violence to extend into the realm of fertility care.
We commend the swift and professional response of Palm Springs' first responders and the seriousness with which they are pursuing this investigation. We urge law enforcement at every level to intensify their efforts to safeguard medical professionals and healthcare settings. We also call upon elected officials from across the political spectrum to unequivocally condemn this act of violence — and to reject any rhetoric or actions that embolden hostility against medical professionals providing lawful, ethical care. Opposition to medical procedures must never manifest as violence.
We recognize the profound impact that the threat of violence has on our community. We will keep our members informed as pertinent information becomes available.
