Needs Assessment and Meeting
Description
The theme of the 2007 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine is “Capitalizing on Innovations in Reproductive Health Care.” The meeting will address the educational needs of a broad spectrum of practitioners in the field of reproductive medicine and biology including specialists in male and female infertility, urology, contraception, menopause, mental health, reproductive surgery, pediatric and adult reproductive endocrinology, geriatric sexual health, clinical and basic embryology, andrology, and reproductive medicine practice administration. In addition, ethicists, legal experts and social scientists will take advantage of the location in the capital of the United States of America, Washington, D.C., the center of American politics and government and a mirror of American culture and society, to explore rapidly evolving social trends in the utilization of reproductive care. Plenary speakers will focus on the impact of recent advances in contraceptive, stem cell and assisted reproductive technologies on the American family and on policymakers’ reactions to these promising new therapies. International experts will share insights on reproductive medicine, menopause, contraception and ethics through plenary lectures, oral abstract presentations and posters. Washington, D.C. is a major global biomedical research center, where scientists have made significant contributions to deciphering the human genome, discovering the molecular basis of disease and developing regulations and standards to protect patients. The Annual Meeting will inform participants about many exciting breakthroughs in biology and medicine that will advance the practice of reproductive medicine and improve patient care, including the revolution in genetics and genomics, the fetal basis of adult disease, imaging of live cells, the neuroendocrine basis of behavior, and the biology of environmental toxicants. Special sessions will update attendees about the results of recent clinical trials of importance to reproductive clinicians and biologists. Like the nation’s capital itself, the 2007 Annual Meeting will serve as forum for all to interact and exchange ideas in an open, stimulating environment.
