ASRM Mission Statement

ASRM is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the advancement of the art, science, and practice of reproductive medicine. The Society accomplishes its mission through the pursuit of excellence in education and research and through advocacy on behalf of patients, physicians, and affiliated health care providers. The Society is committed to facilitating and sponsoring educational activities for the lay public and continuing medical education activities for professionals who are engaged in the practice of and research in reproductive medicine.

Approved by the ASRM Board of Directors, November 8, 2008

ASRM Continuing Medical Education
Mission Statement

The educational mission of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) consists of a comprehensive educational program comprised of educational activities that serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide reproductive medicine services for patients, the public and the profession. Based on the needs of the members, the intent of the program is to provide new skills needed to enhance the quality of patient care.

Continuing medical education activities are designed in the public interest for physicians who practice the full spectrum of reproductive medicine. Continuing Medical Education (CME) is an important ASRM goal and is conducted in coordination with other goals, which include the education of nurses, basic scientists, individuals in training, and allied health providers who are engaged in the practice of and research in reproductive medicine.

Activities conducted by the Society to achieve these CME goals include the Annual Meeting, with its scientific presentations, seminars, workshops, and postgraduate courses; free-standing postgraduate courses; the monthly continuing medical education initiative in the journal Fertility and Sterility; electronic media; internet CME activities; periodic lectures and workshops; periodic enduring educational materials; and in other publications from the Society.

The Society regularly surveys members and learners of its educational activities to ensure that learners find that the activities result in improvement in their practice of medicine. The Society also uses assessment tools to assure that activities are effective in providing information of educational value. The Society strives to provide activities that are evidence-based, balanced and free from bias. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine is committed to assuring physicians and the public that the content and quality of its CME program meets the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) essentials.

Approved by the CME Committee, September 27, 2007
